Symptoms of Hydraulic Oil Filter Blockage
May 05, 2025
The blockage of hydraulic oil filter will directly affect the normal operation of the hydraulic system. The specific symptoms can be divided into the following categories:
1. Insufficient lubrication and component wear
When the filter is blocked, dirt will block the oil channel, resulting in insufficient local lubrication, causing direct friction on the surface of the mechanical gear, aggravating wear and generating high temperature, and in severe cases, may burn the components.
When the unfiltered oil enters the main oil channel through the bypass valve, it may carry impurities, further aggravating the wear of downstream components.
2. Abnormal heating and noise of equipment
When the suction filter is blocked, the oil pump cannot smoothly absorb oil, and the work force needs to be increased, resulting in a significant increase in noise. At the same time, due to increased energy consumption, the temperature of the equipment rises rapidly, and the components may be burned in the long term.
The blockage of the high-pressure oil circuit filter may cause the oil pump to overload, which also causes heating and noise problems.
3. Abnormal operation of hydraulic components
When the high-pressure circuit filter is blocked, the hydraulic oil cannot pass smoothly, and the downstream components (such as the cylinder) move slowly or even stop completely. If there is no alarm device or bypass valve, the equipment may be paralyzed.
Clogged return filter element will increase back pressure and slow down the cylinder action; if the bypass valve is open, unfiltered oil may contaminate the downstream valve core, causing stagnation or performance degradation.
4. Increased oil contamination
Clogged return filter element will weaken the circulation and drainage capacity, increase oil contamination, and make the oil in the system dirty, further affecting the overall performance.
Summary: The symptoms of hydraulic oil filter element blockage are closely related to the blockage location (suction, high-pressure circuit or return oil), and the filter element needs to be checked and replaced regularly to avoid equipment damage. If abnormal oil pump noise, slow cylinder action or abnormal oil temperature is found, the filter element status should be checked in time.
